Walk and Wonder
Featuring local Lane Cove bush walks of approximately 1.5 hours, easy to moderate grade. We walk on the third Sunday afternoon of the month.
Our groups are intergenerational and multicultural. Many of our walkers are 50+ but we also have younger adults and families join us and find the children engage very well. We enjoy discussion over shared snacks mid-way. The only cost is contributing a snack to the common 'table'.
Games in the Park
Join us for some fun at Helen Street reserve, Lane Cove North each last Sunday of the month 2.30- 5pm. There are games such as table tennis, volleyball, bocce, giant chess, family and children's activities so that everyone can join in - or watch if they prefer. Also some free fitness sessions by generous local providers. Each 'games day' varies a little in what is being offered by our generous community.
Our Neighbour Day Games in the Park was visited by 'Ask the Doctor' and shown on ABC TV on 9/7/19 (the Loneliness episode). It can be viewed here .
Small groups who share over dinner or a coffee helping each other explore our spirituality and what it takes to be a Christian today. An open, confidential, non-judgemental environment in which to share what is relevant to our lives. A place where deeper relationships are formed. 'It feels like family'. Currently utilising 'The New Testament You Never Knew' resource by N.T Wright and Michael F. Bird.
Book Club - Greg Sheridan Talk
Our current book is God is Good For You. A Defence of Christianity in Troubled Times by Greg Sheridan. $20 for the remainder of the series covers supper of cheese, wine and snacks. This popular group is open to new members as we discuss section by section in depth, as it relates to our lives. Everyone is welcome and all people and their views are respected.
Each second Thursday of the month at 7pm.
Greg Sheridan spoke to us in Lane Cove on 24/10/19 and the audience was rapt!
Coffee or Dinner anyone?
Some low key gatherings where you can just turn up and enjoy the company of others over food and beverages.
Come and chat with people of a different generation, exchanging wisdom and kindness. Our venue is family-friendly with an enclosed, outdoor playground and close to Mowbray School. Developing relationships takes time, so we gather each Wednesday 9.30-11am at Mowbray Eatery . Cost - your order from the cafe.
Meditation in the Chapel
Thursdays at 11.30 am, Lane Cove Uniting Church chapel, corner Figtree St and Centennial Ave, Lane Cove. Learn to live from the centre of your being in every situation by the practice of silence and stillness. Utilising Australian Christian Meditation Community resources plus some of our own.
It's free and flexible. The practice is a simple one, so come and join us any time and you will receive immediate instruction. There are no 'experts' - come and learn with us.
Reflective Activities and more
Retreats: We have enjoyed some wonderful retreats including reflective bush walking, exploring ancient spiritual practices, creative pursuits, and great food! We have hosted two One Day Retreats in the Blue Mountains this year with more to come in 2020.
If you are interested, contact us to learn more. You don't need to be Christian, just respectful of others' beliefs, open to meeting some new people and having a good time!
Sometimes people just need a little help to get started! Buddies are local volunteers who will come alongside you and help you take some new steps in a gently supportive way. It's a nuanced initiative to suit who you are and what you want to do.
